Maluti-A-Phofung engages residents in electricity resolutions | News Article

Community members in the Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) Municipality are currently involved in the process of Eskom taking over the electricity distribution in the municipality.

The MAP municipal spokesperson, Thabo Khesa, told OFM News that as negotiations continue, community members are already being enlightened on how the municipality, in collaboration with Eskom, is planning on resolving the electricity crisis in the municipality. He further said the negotiation process between the municipality and Eskom is almost at the final stage.

“So, what is happening now, is that - as part of the process - we have to have public participation. Meaning going to all the wards, talking to residents, and informing them about the proposed agreements with Eskom and what they entail. Of course, the agreement still needs to be signed between Eskom and Maluti-A-Phofung, but that is the work that we are doing on the ground and fortunately, we also have Eskom around, so they are part of those public participation meetings where the residents are talked to and are asking questions”.

Khesa stated that he is happy with how community members are receiving the proposals and are participating in taking responsibility to resolve the electricity crisis.
