UFS lifts #Covid19 regulations, vaccination policy─── HEIDRÈ MALGAS 11:04 Sun, 17 Jul 2022
The University of the Free State's (UFS) Covid-19 regulations and vaccination policy have been lifted by its council with immediate effect.
Rector and vice-chancellor of the UFS, Professor Francis Petersen, said that the university conducted a risk assessment to determine the risk of exposure to staff and students, and found that infections at the institution are low risk.
A few of the factors that contributed to this low risk, says Petersen, comes from the fact that there were no positive cases in the last month as well as the fact that most of the university's students and staff members are vaccinated.
“We believe that Covid-19 no longer poses an immediate threat to the safety of our staff and students, and that the pandemic is at a stage where they should take responsibility for their own safety,” said Petersen.
He added that staff and students who still wish to wear masks are urged to do so at their own discretion.
