Mantashe to respond to energy crisis concerns─── 13:44 Tue, 12 Jul 2022
Against the backdrop of South Africa's ever-growing energy crisis, Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe, has less than a week to respond to a press release from a civil society.
The release was signed nationally by 16 groups, with one that has a vested interest in the Northern Cape. An open letter was sent to the minister, citing Section 34 of the Energy Regulation Act, which requires him to sign a determination before any large new power plant is constructed.
The release further emphasises that renewable energy and storage will add electricity to the grid faster due to their ease of implementation. They said in this way, load-shedding will have a less negative impact on both the economy and South African livelihoods.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the eNCA reported that the spokesperson of the ANC, Pule Mabe, called for the support of small businesses and poor households in the consideration of using renewable energy sources to alleviate the energy crisis.
