Free State clinic helps deal with backlog─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:26 Sun, 15 May 2022
Freedom Square clinic in Bloemfontein opened doors after hours for patients over the weekend - to deal with a backlog and extend access to health care.
The clinic is one of many overcrowded by patients in the Mangaung Metro Municipality. Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says that the clinic embarked on a pilot of open day service to cater for all patients in the area.

Mvambi says the clinic is often challenged by high volume attendance of patients during the week and this leads to other patients not being able to get desired services during the week. He says that the clinic is situated in a high density populated area with few health facilities and other social amenities.
Mvambi says that the services were rendered on Saturday, but says that the public will be informed of future special openings of clinics on a weekend.
Meanwhile Free State Health MEC, Montseng Tsiu, recently said that the Department has tried to implement a strategy that will deal with patients being turned away without assistance due to overwhelming queues at hospitals and clinics.
