Cyberlabs opened to modernise education─── 13:38 Tue, 10 May 2022
A cyber lab officially opened at the Noupoort Combined School in its quest of harnessing and sharpening the knowledge, skills, and competencies required by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
These labs, which are part of ten cyber labs the Northern Cape (NC) Department of Education has delivered to the province, have been launched to modernise the education system and provide solutions toward being responsive to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
According to the department, learners will be able to navigate various dimensions of each of these zones, via giant multi-touch high-resolution screens. The software engages the senses and allows experiential learning that would be difficult to duplicate within the confines of a normal classroom. Learners can watch 3D animations, take virtual tours and engage with interactive content and simulations.
“The software that the Cyber labs are equipped with, completely functions offline, meaning that educators and learners will have access to all electronic learning material without any data or internet access requirements. All 10 Cyber labs are operating completely offline at a zero data cost to the Department.”
During his address, the MEC also highlighted that it is his observation that these rich, imaginative cyber labs “not only provide a space for academic learning, but also foster interactive collaborative learning where teachers and children depend on and trust one another, whilst finding solutions to problems”.
“They promote co-operation, teamwork, respect, and patience. The cyber labs promise engaging and immersive learning experiences for students."
