The South African Minister of Police is on Saturday set to fulfil his promise of revisiting the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State.

Minister Bheki Cele, together with management of the South African Police Service, will embark on a Ministerial Crime Prevention Imbizo in Botshabelo in the Metro.

This comes after Cele announced to residents during the Presidential Imbizo hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 9 April that he will make a special visit to the town after residents aired concerns about how unsafe it is.

OFM News previously reported Cele confirmed that 10 000 trainee police officers are undergoing training and out of that number, 550 police officers will be deployed to the province before the end of this year.

Cele previously released crime statistics recorded by the South African Police Service (SAPS) that revealed an 8,9% increase in murder and a 3,5% increase in attempted murder when compared to the previous year.

The top four factors identified in these deaths are arguments, vigilantism, robberies, and revenge or retaliation.
