The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works cautions motorists to avoid using the damaged R31 road, as it is under construction.
The provincial MEC for Roads and Public Works, Fifu Makatong, has conducted an oversight visit on the closed road, near the Danielskuil T-junction where road workers are repairing damages that were caused by flooding.
Makatong calls for motorists to use alternative routes, following her announcement that the road would remain closed until until engineers worked on life-threatening potholes and the damaged layers of the road.

Meanwhile, the statement issued by department stipulates that progress has been made despite rainfall that was experienced over the weekend.
The department also stated that the road will remain closed as the construction team is busy digging trenches to drain stagnant water.
