All eyes on Free State Social Development's budget─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:46 Thu, 31 Mar 2022
All eyes will be on the MEC for Social Development in the Free State as she tables her departmental budget for 2022/23 during the Provincial Legislature's sitting.
The mitigation and efforts to address femicide in the province are among the key points expected to be at the forefront of her budget speech.
Old age homes and children's homes, housing abandoned babies, will also be waiting to determine how deep MEC Mamiki Qhabathe can dig to offer financial support to these already struggling homes. Earlier, Qhabathe met with executive and senior managers to put the final touches on her speech in preparation for the budget.
Earlier, on her departmental Facebook Page, she said during the budget speech "she will be reporting back to the Free State communities and stakeholders on progress made after last year's commitments, and present the coming financial year's plans".
The department recently celebrated the social workers at Social Work Month 2022 with their clients in the Tshepong Victim Support Centre.
On Thursday, two budget speeches will be tabled in the Legislature's sitting in the Fourth Raadsaal in Bloemfontein.
MEC for Cooperative Governance (Cogta) Mxolisi Dukwana will table his second departmental budget with MEC Qhabathe set to follow suit.
Both speeches will be debated by opposition parties, including the ruling party ANC. Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, Zanele Sifuba, is set to preside over the sitting which is set to start at 09:00 on Thursday.
