Five CUT protesters out on bail─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:01 Fri, 25 Mar 2022
Five students who were arrested after protesting at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, were slapped with a warning by the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Free State police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, tells OFM News that the students were released on free bail and will be reappearing in court on 26 April 2022.
OFM News previously reported that five students were arrested after they were allegedly engaged in violent acts and started throwing stones at police on Tuesday. Covane said that a split-off group ran towards President Brand Street where they removed parts of the pavement and blocked the road with it.
The protest came as a result of alleged maladministration and a lack of student accommodation, amongst other issues. OFM News also reported that police had used what sounded like stun grenades to disperse the group of protesting students on Tuesday.
