Services halted at troubled Mangaung─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:00 Mon, 14 Mar 2022
Services at the Mangaung Metro Municipality have been halted with irate political staff members engaged in a protest over the non-payment of their salaries.
Residents have not been able to gain entrance inside the premises whilst the protests continue. Some residents are also unable to exit the premises because doors at the institution have been locked. Workers allege that they have not received their February salaries whilst those who got paid in January received half their salaries. They allege that on numerous occasions, promises to pay their salaries were made but nothing has happened yet. Some of the staff members who spoke to OFM News says they were set to receive payment notifications this morning but have not received anything yet.
However, in an interview with OFM News over the weekend, the Head of the Department (HOD) of Cooperative Governance (Cogta), Mokete Duma, said some of these issues include the fact that proper recruitment processes in hiring them were never followed.

The political staff members are continuing to sing and chant struggle songs while protesting against the non-payment by the metro. There is no sight of management on the ground to address the grievance of workers. Some workers have positioned themselves at security entrances.
The acting City Manager (CM), Mzingisi Nkungwana, is yet to respond to a detailed set of questions by OFM News about the non-payment.
