FS school brought to a standstill after incident─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 12:58 Mon, 07 Mar 2022
The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in the Free State Province has brought Hoërskool Wessel Maree in Odendaalsrus to a standstill by picketing. They are also delivering a memorandum of their demands.
The picketing comes on the heels of a video going viral, of a teacher violently pushing a learner off his feet.
Cosas’ Provincial Chairperson, Katleho Modupi, tells OFM News that they have delivered a memorandum of demands to the school, which should be delivered to the Department of Education. This is despite the department releasing a statement over the weekend, stating that they have suspended the teacher in the said video, pending an investigation.
Modupi believes picketing at the school is their democratic right. The incident took place last week Friday, in front of other learners.
