Refrain from hiring foreign nationals with no permits - FS Agriculture MEC─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:07 Sun, 20 Feb 2022
The MEC for Agriculture and Land Reform in the Free State, Thembeni Nxangisa, has called on livestock owners to refrain from hiring foreign nationals who do not have permits to work in the country.
This is after an anti-stock theft meeting was held in Qwaqwa.
He warns that employing foreign nationals who don’t have permits to work in the country, presents a challenge when they commit a crime, as it is difficult to trace them.
Nxangisa says in a statement that the province has more than 100 000 units of stolen livestock, with almost 4 000 stock theft cases reported yearly.
He says areas such as Qwaqwa, Kestell and Harrismith are mostly affected by livestock crimes in the Eastern Free State.
Nxangisa urged livestock owners and anti-stock theft patrollers to work with police to assist with information that will lead to the arrests of these criminals. According to Nxangisa, the department will coordinate municipalities and royal houses to strengthen relations amongst farmers.
