The former Fidelity security guard that was arrested in connection with a cash-heist in Johannesburg this week, has been linked to a separate albeit similar crime in the North West province occurring in early November 2021.
The North West Hawks' spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase, says the November heist involving the same 41-year-old unnamed guard took place in Brits at Net 1 financial services. Nkwalase says three gunmen allegedly accosted an on duty security officer, as he was about to load cash into the backend of an ATM machine.
The assailants disarmed the Brits security officer and gained entry to the rear door of the security vehicle. After gaining access to the vehicle, the three suspects grabbed an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a charcoal Mercedes Benz with three more occupants inside. They reportedly fired three shots as the drove off.
The accused has been identified as a former employee of Rustenburg Fidelity Cash Solution who was later transferred to Johannesburg. He was released on bail by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, when he was taken into custody for the Brits incident.
It is not known how he was linked to the Brits incident.
