A truck driver died after he presumably burned to death after a collision between two trucks at the N1 Koppies off-ramp in the Free State.
This happened just before the national minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, is on Monday expected to launch the road safety campaign for the festive season in Bloemfontein.
According to police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, two trucks were involved in an accident on Friday morning 10 November 2021, at about 06:00. Makhele says the one truck driver has already been taken to a hospital in Kroonstad. The other truck driver allegedly died after he presumably burned to death after the collision. Meanwhile, Makhele says a culpable homicide case will be opened for further investigation.
“Investigations on the scene will reveal the cause of the accident, as well as further information. The road is totally closed and traffic heading north is diverted at Kroonstad, to offramp to the Heilbron/Koppies road. Traffic heading south is diverted before the Vaal Toll Plaza to Vredefort,” he adds.
