#MatricExams: NC premier urges adherence to #Covid19 regulations─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:37 Wed, 27 Oct 2021

The premier of the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul, has urged grade 12 pupils and educators to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations.
Schools in the province recently battled to deal with the spread of the virus, which forced many schools to close their doors for decontamination processes. Saul says the teachers and learners should at all times make sure that they are wearing masks, sanitising, and maintaining social distancing.
Saul further called on parents to support the class of 2021 who on Wednesday started the exam with their first English paper. They are among more than 600 000 learners who will be writing the English paper in 6 326 examination centers around the country.
"The matric exam is the culmination of 12 years of your hard work, dedication and sacrifices. This might be the most important examination you will ever write, as a pass mark will grant you access to higher learning opportunities and a better life for not only you but for family and loved ones.
“Therefore, matriculants, conduct [your]selves with distinction and be honest and ethical when you sit down for the examination. We trust that we empowered and equipped you through our combined efforts, support, and extra classes to be in the position of excellence,” Saul adds.
In 2020 the province only managed to secure a matric pass rate of 66%, which was the biggest decline as compared to their 77% matric pass rate in 2019.
The province has 5 748 active Covid-19 cases with 2 170 deaths and 82 280 recoveries from 90 198 cases overall.
