Four die in accident involving EMS ambulance | News Article

A collision, involving an EMS ambulance, two vehicles and a light delivery truck, took place on the N8 on Saturday, an estimated two kilometres from Tweespruit in the Free State.

Emergency Medical Services’ spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says that one Lesotho registered car was carrying four people, who had all died on the accident scene.

Towa adds that the occupants of all the other vehicles were treated for shock and discharged on the scene.

Towa says the ambulance was on its way to its base in Tweespruit. About 2 km from Tweespruit there was a car that was parked on the side and someone was on top of the car waving so then they started slowing down and going towards the yellow line. Now this car that came at the back was coming at a high speed and it hit the ambulance at the back and it lost control and then it was seared into the oncoming traffic and then it collided with an oncoming truck and another BMW.”

Towa says that the four occupants of the car that drove into the rear end of the ambulance were declared dead on the scene.

He adds that the EMS employees were fortunately unharmed and that the SAPS took over shortly after the accident and allowed traffic to flow again.
