Bloemfontein man dies while nurses allegedly refuse to help | News Article

Bloemfontein police were called to intervene in a dispute between the family - of a seriously ill man who eventually died in his neighbour’s car right in front of a clinic – and nurses at a clinic in the city.

Kelebogile Ntlangane, sister-in-law of the deceased, Papi Moshampa, says when they called for an ambulance, they were advised to rush him to the nearest clinic. Moshampa came from work complaining of shortness of breath and fatigue. But, says Ntlangane, with their arrival at the MUCPP Community Health Centre in Phelindaba, they were prevented from going inside by security personnel, who were instructed by nurses on duty.

Ntlangane said when the nurses eventually came outside to look at the patient, they said it is a case for the mortuary and their shift is over. As tension grew between the family members and the nurses, police were called in.

After their arrival, the police officers instructed the nurses to open the doors to the clinic for the body to be taken inside.

Meanwhile, the Free State Department of Health’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambo, said they are aware of the alleged mistreatment of the deceased and his family. The department has requested the management to do a full investigation into the matter.
