Madibeng mayor ousted─── 17:09 Tue, 13 Apr 2021
Madibeng local municipality mayor, Jostina Mothibe was removed on Friday following a motion of no confidence tabled by the Democratic Alliance (DA) and supported by other parties.
DA caucus leader in Madibeng, Jan Van Rhyn, says Mothibe's lack of leadership - which led to a collapse in service delivery, as well as the fact that the municipality failed to obtain clean audit reports from the Auditor-General for a number of years - was a key point to outs her.
During a council meeting on Friday, it was decided that voting will take place by secret ballot. It is said a number of ANC councillors including Mothibe, walked out of before the vote could take place.
The DA nominated Nkateka Mabundla as its mayoral candidate, while ANC nominate Joseph Ratloi.
In a vote of 24 to 16, councillor Ratloi was voted in as Madibeng's new mayor.
Van Rhyn said the DA will monitor Ratloi's performance, progress and work ethics to bring services for people of Madibeng.
