Mangaung encourages opposition to consult law enforcers | News Article

The Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State has invited members of the public, including opposition parties with allegations of corruption and fraud, to consult the relevant municipal authorities and law enforcement agencies.

This, after the DA in the province raised concerns over service delivery issues as well as maladministration and corruption allegations.

Briefing the media on Wednesday, the party in the metro led by its provincial leader, Roy Jankielsohn, said there is a high need for investigations into the conduct of the Municipal Manager Tankiso Mea as services continue to collapse. The party says the municipality is in a far worse situation despite interventions by the provincial government as the municipality has since 2019 been placed under administration.

The party says poor service delivery, the non-payment of workers’ overtime, non-payment of contractors and service providers, escalating Bloem Water debt and others have become a norm within the municipality.

The DA’s Mangaung Chairperson David Masoeu and Caucus Leader Hardie Viviers have highlighted how the lack of leadership in the municipality is worsening the situation, stating that they will forward their concerns to the Office of the Auditor-General and the Public Protector, should the Acting Executive Mayor fail to act following their request to launch formal investigations against Mea.
