Condolences are pouring in for the friends and family of Chairperson of the Financial and Fiscal Commission, Professor Daniel Plaatjies, who passed away this past weekend.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, Plaatjies passed away of natural causes on Saturday.
Several academic institutions and fellow professors have expressed shock at his passing and sent their condolences to his loved ones.
Plaatjies is described by many as a dedicated public servant with an excellent work ethic.
He served in a number of positions, both in the public and private sector.
His contribution to academia and nation-building is applauded by many.
Plaatjies is described as someone who not only worked hard and aimed for excellence in everything he did but as someone who promoted unity and understood what it meant to be a public servant.
Former University of the Free State vice-chancellor, Professor Jonathan Jansen, is among those who took to social media to send condolences to the Plaatjies family.
Jansen, in his Tweet, described Plaatjies as someone who believed in endless possibilities for South Africa and what its people could achieve.
