This follows a spate of protests in the area, following numerous complaints from residents about the lack of proper service delivery by the municipality.

Residents blamed the municipality, among other things, for the high unemployment rate in the area, poor water supply as well as a lack of lighting in the area.

Mayor Sello Bahumi says the project to refurbish their boreholes will increase the volume of water supply.

"As long as the contractor is working, interruptions and low pressure will remain in place," he adds.

Bahumi further elaborates that this project resumed more than two months ago and is expected to continue and be completed next month in November.

"Hopefully and certainly after completion of the project, normal and better supply will resume. My apology for the inconvenience it has caused to the citizens," Bahumi further adds.

The violent protests in the area led to the total shutdown of the area - forcing schools to close as well as local small businesses.
