#CoronavirusFS: Five police stations closed in one day | News Article

Five police stations have been temporarily closed throughout the Free State in a single day following confirmed Coronavirus cases.

Free State Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele reveals police stations in the towns of Fauresmith, Frankfort, Dealesville, Thaba’ Nchu and Petrusburg will now undergo decontamination and deep cleaning in the light of the confirmed cases. Thereafter the police stations will be reopened to render services to communities. The community service centres in the above-mentioned towns will in the meantime operate from temporary bases.

In Fauresmith and Petrusburg, the service centres will function from the detective offices in those areas, while in Frankfort it will operate from Parkhome situated on the police station premises. The Thaba Nchu police station will operate from the Barolong Hall. Makhele adds “the Free State, Baile Motswenyane  and management wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these closures”. Meanwhile the Hennenman and Phuthaditjhaba police stations have reopened and are at present rendering services.

The Free State now has 13 385 active cases and 63 confirmed deaths. In mid-June 14 Covid-19 related deaths were reported  in the South African Police Service (SAPS), while a total of 1 685 police officers tested positive for the virus. At that time, 1 034 of those cases were found in the Western Cape alone. With Gauteng now being the epicentre of the virus in the country, it is expected this picture will change when police release their figures again.
