#Coronavirus: Mkhize to oversee screening in NW | News Article

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize will today be among various dignitaries, including the North West premier, to receive a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from private donors in the province.

Mkhize says he and Premier Job Mokgoro, as well as Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe, will also visit the Rustenburg Correctional Centre Screening and Testing Site in the afternoon.

This comes as the provincial Health Department intensified ongoing testing, screening and contact tracing of suspected Coronavirus cases in the province.

The trio will also be joined by the provincial Coronavirus command council - including MECs and the Rustenburg mayor, Mpho Khunou, at the Job Shimankane Tabane Provincial Hospital in the morning.

So far the province has 35 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 20 recoveries, zero deaths and over one million people screened for the virus.

The North West Health Department has now tested over 2500 people for Coronavirus in its effort to stem the spread of the Covid-19 in the province.

At least four out of those currently infected by the virus in the province are in hospital. OFM News previously reported that thirteen of over 200 Cuban doctors who came to aid South Africa in the battle with the virus have been deployed to the province.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, Mkhize announced that the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 7572 and the total number of deaths is 148.
