Manhunt launched for NW escapee─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:57 Wed, 29 Apr 2020
The North West police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who escaped from detention in Delareyville.
Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says the 20-year-old Kagiso Nakedi escaped from custody in the early hours of Saturday morning, 18 April 2020, with two other trial-awaiting prisoners who have since been re-arrested. She says Nakedi was in detention for two cases of residential burglary and theft. Members of the community have also been urged not to try and apprehend or even confront Nakedi as he may be dangerous. Myburgh further asked that anyone with information that may lead to his re-arrest to contact the nearest police station.
Myburgh says two suspects, Brian Moshe Mocks Chacha (24) and Success Kuda Phiri (27), were re-arrested in Kopela village after the police were mobilised and followed up information which led them to a house in that village.
"They appeared before the Delareyville Magistrate's Court on Monday 20 April 2020 for an escape from lawful custody and will be remanded in custody until Monday 25 May 2020," she adds.
Myburgh says it was discovered during routine cell inspection at the station that the three detainees forced open roof burglar bars of one of the cells and escaped.
"Anyone with information that may lead to the re-arrest of Kagiso Nakedi is requested to call the nearest police station or contact the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Roelf Herbst on 082 373 7619," she further added.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, has commended the re-apprehension of Chacha and Phiri. He adds that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Nakedi is also brought to book.
