This, as the country still awaits Health Minister Zweli Mkhize’s confirmation on the two Kwa-Zulu Natal deaths. This will bring the total number of deaths in the country to nine while the number of those infected stands at 1 505. 

In a statement yesterday, Mkhize confirmed that the number of positive cases is still escalating with Gauteng being the epicentre followed by the Western Cape, and the Free State. 

He said the government remains committed to flattening the COVID-19 pandemic curve and urges all South Africans to adhere to the regulations of the lockdown. 

The Free State Provincial Health Department has meanwhile asked that the family of the deceased be given privacy to deal with the loss of their loved one. 

Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi is yet to confirm the name of the deceased and details surrounding the death.
