'SA must invest in the youth' - Dlamini-Zuma | News Article

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says there is a high need to ensure that more young people and women partake in the agriculture sector.

Welcoming thousands of National Rural Youth Services Corps' (NARYSEC) youth at the NARYSEC College in Thaba Nchu in the Free State, Dlamini Zuma said there is a high demand for agricultural products in South Africa and abroad. She told the graduates and members of the public that the country needs to export more products to develop the country's economy. Dlamini-Zuma has reiterated that the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment, and equality still pose a major challenge in the country and are hopeful that the training of the youth into this programme will assist in redressing these challenges.

Speaking ahead of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza, Dlamini-Zuma did not only highlight the importance of investing in the youth and in women, but in ensuring that their qualifications are put to good use to create employment for others.

She reiterated that the NARYSEC programme is a flagship youth skills development programme, aimed at ensuring that future generations are equipped with all the necessary skills to move the country forward.

Dlamini-Zuma further explained that the programme targets unemployed young people from the rural areas throughout the country and that the government is planning to expand their intake.

This, as the NARYSEC training includes Nature Conservation, Artisanry, Plumbing, Electrical Engineering, Office Administration, Building and Construction, among others.
