Floods leave residents of Caleb Motshabi devastated─── 15:02 Mon, 13 Jan 2020
The floods that were reported on Friday 10 January 2020 at the informal settlements in Caleb Motshabi, Bloemfontein, left many residents without shelter, food and clothes.
OFM News attended to the scene and found some residents trying to recover their belongings as well as re-building their shelters that were destroyed by the unfortunate floods. Residents in the area say that this is a difficult way to start the new year as they are supposed to be preparing their children for the new school year but circumstances have made that very difficult.
Residents are unsure about how the municipality can assist them in this matter as it is too much for them to handle on their own. A local store on Friday came to the need of residents as they delivered food parcels to needy victims as well as a soup kitchen that helped in that matter. A local resident told OFM News that a four-month-old infant had died due to the floods.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, could, however, not confirm whether the statement is true.
