#PrellerSquareShooting: Defence tries to poke holes in testimony | News Article

The defence in the murder trial of slain CityMed MD, Louis Siemens, where Stanley Bakili and others are standing trial for murder in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein, has questioned the state witness on the details in his testimony.

In his statement, Ohuliseng Selemela, a former waiter at a restaurant at the entrance to the Preller Square Shopping Complex’s basement parking lot, testified that Bakili, when meeting with Siemens, pretended to go down as if he was tying his shoelaces implying that he was giving a signal to accused number four, Mojalefa Jali Molusi. He testified that his implication that Bakili was giving a signal to Molusi comes after he, in his first encounter with the accused, noticed that the shoes he wore at the time did not need to be tied up.

The video shows Bakili tying his left shoelace, looking over his shoulder and moments later Molusi and Selemela entered the restaurant. Selemela, who stood firm in his testimony, earlier testified that his only commission statement was done on 3 October 2018 five months after the incident.

The men on trial are Bakili, Molebatsi Mogoera, Kagiso Chabane, Mojalefa Jali Molusi, Moeketsi Lesia, Karabo Tau, Sizwe Mpati, and Clive Tshivenga. They are between the ages of 29 and 56 and include three police officers, a disbarred advocate, an accused in separate double murder cases, and a military man. Selemela also testified that Mojalefa and the self-confessed shooter of Siemens, Xolisile Mbebeto, parked outside the restaurant with a white Polo VW  and smoked before he approached Mojalefa to offer something to drink. But defence put it to him the car, according to the tracker of the car, shows that the car was never around the Graaff Reinet Street where the restaurant is based in Dan Pienaar.

Selemela in his testimony placed Bakili, Molusi and Siemens' self-confessed shooter, Mbebeto - who is currently serving a 22-year life term in prison - at the scene of the crime.
