Nketoana Municipality replaces 70-year-old water pipe─── 06:18 Fri, 04 Oct 2019
The Nketoana Local Municipality in the Eastern Free State on Thursday replaced another piece of the water pipe that was in use for about 70 years.
This came a week after the municipality shut down water supply to communities in order to replace a section of the old leaking pipes. According to the Municipal Service Delivery Coordinator, Bela Mokhali, the piece of pipe that was replaced yesterday was situated at least 50 meters from the replaced pipes.
Mokhali also stated that the municipality’s reservoirs are at 50% amidst the water restrictions the municipality had put into place, as the Lesotho Highlands Dam, which supplies water to the Free State, is currently under construction.
Mokhali previously told OFM News that water restrictions will last until the end of November when the dam is fully functional again.
This comes amidst the replacement of water pipes in Kimberley in the Northern Cape where Sol Plaatje municipality has also embarked on replacing aged water pipes in Riverton.
The city and surrounding areas were instructed before the three-day scheduled replacement, to collect as much water as possible. The replacement of water pipes in the area is expected to be completed today.
