Bojanala municipal workers yet to be paid September salaries─── 05:27 Wed, 02 Oct 2019
Workers at Bojanala Platinum District Municipality in North West have not been paid their September salaries.
Municipal spokesperson Archie Babeile confirmed on Tuesday that workers have not been paid their September salaries.
"Salaries have been delayed, the council will meet on Wednesday or Thursday, a resolution from the council meeting will set the direction on the way forward," he said.
Mayor Fetsang Molosiwa held a closed meeting with affected workers on Tuesday, it was not immediately known what was discussed in that meeting.
Municipal manager Pogiso Shikwane, issued a notice to all municipal employees and councillors that their September salaries would be delayed due to financial difficulties.
However, some of the workers in the lower salary scale said they have received their salaries.
The Democratic Alliance in North West has called on the provincial public accounts committee to urgently summon the political leadership and senior managers of the municipality to account for the municipality's dire financial state that has again led to the non-payment of salaries.
In July, workers salaries were delayed, due to the non-payment of the equitable share from the provincial treasury.
The municipality does not generate income and depends on the equitable share.
