The chairperson of the non-profit organisation, Kgosi Mohlakoana, says Greening Initiatives SA aims to create awareness of the importance of planting trees to the public. According to Mohlakoana, tree planting has taken a setback, which is why they took this opportunity to make a difference as a community. 

Not only will the trees make a difference in Raceway Park, it will also teach children from a young age about the importance of taking care of the planet. The organisation chose to plant trees that do not need much water to survive. This way the trees are good for the environment and very economical. They hope that the tree planting event will be one of many, and aim to plant 5000 trees by the end of the year.
