Justice minister to honour women at Goedemoed prison─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:22 Fri, 30 Aug 2019
A wall of remembrance in honour of slain correctional officer, Nomsa Stuurman, who was brutally murdered by a prisoner in the Goedemoed Medium Correctional Centre in the Free State in March 2019, will today be unveiled.
A special wall honouring all other women who fell victim to the crime by the inmate will be revealed by the national minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, will on Friday.
The provincial Correctional Services spokesperson, Puleng Mokhoane, says the departmental top officials and Lamola will also hold a cleaning ceremony in the room where Stuurman was brutally murdered.
This as departmental women across the country chose to celebrate and honour victims and survivors of crime at the hands of offenders today as the county concludes Women's Month.
She was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors and it is further alleged that her colleague was raped by this inmate who has since been sent to one of South Africa' maximum prisons in Ebongweni Correctional Centre in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal.
Stuurman's colleague who was raped by the inmate was released after hours of negotiations with the prisoner after the ordeal. The woman is said to be on special leave.
