Recipients are not following the instructions printed on the slips they receive after withdrawing cash, this is according to the South African Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) spokesperson in the Free State, Sandy Godlwana. The statement was made after several Sassa recipients have expressed their concerns over not receiving grants for the past three months.
Godlwana says that the agency sent out letters six months ago to certain clients inviting them to visit their nearest Sassa office to review their grants. She says the review process is done to confirm that the beneficiaries’ information is still as they were at the point of application or if they've since changed, to make amendments accordingly.
Godlwana added that some recipients have received their letters three months ago informing them that their grants will be suspended after 90 days from the date of the first letter. She further stated that those whose 90 days have lapsed, have had their grants suspended and had not received their social grants.
In conclusion, Godlwana says affected recipients are urged to report to their nearest Sassa office and their grants will be reinstated and released once they have completed their service process.
