OFM News earlier reported that Mqwathi has been implicated in an alleged dodgy tender fraud deal with a few other accused persons who were all arrested last week. Mqwathi was meant to hand himself over to the Hawks in the Free State last week Wednesday after the police on Tuesday arrested two of his co-accused. After he failed to show up at the local police station, the Hawks stated that they were looking for him and consider him a fugitive. 

His arrest in Kroonstad comes just a day after OFM News reported that he posted a video on Twitter over the weekend, despite the fact that the police were on the hunt for him.

The spokesperson for the Hawks, Lloyd Ramovha, told OFM News that contrary to media reports which state that Mqwathi has already appeared in court and was released on R10 000 bail, he remains in custody and is yet to appear before the court.

Further questions have been sent to Ramovha for details around the incident. He faces charges relating to corruption and defeating the ends of justice. “The court date for his appearance is yet to be set, however, it will be within 48 hours after he has been charged formally,” Ramovha concluded.
