ANC youth leader in FS appointed as MEC; tasked with unemployment | News Article

The young and vibrant youth league leader has been tasked with a huge responsibility of coming to the aid of young, frustrated and unemployed young people in the Free State.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) chairperson, Makalo Mohale, will be forced to attend to the needs and plight of the youth in the province as the new MEC of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA).

The FS premier, Sisi Ntombela, announced her new executive council on Tuesday during a media briefing at the Lebohang Building in Bloemfontein, while she was flanked by the Sam Mashinini who retained his post as MEC for Police, Roads and Transport.

Ntombela made it clear to Mohale before his swearing-in that the province has a worrying number of at least 400 000 youth being unemployed and he needs to make sure he seriously looks into the issues of his peers.

She says the newly appointed MEC must hit the ground running.

OFM News previously reported that Ntombela has kept her promise made last week to appoint 50% women in her executive council.

With the additions of Gadija Brown, Tshidi Koloi, and Mamiki Qabathe in the positions of Finance MEC; Public Works and Human Settlements MEC; and Social Development MEC respectively, the Premier now has a provincial cabinet that is half male and half female.

The report further said that three new women MECs join Dimakatso Mahasa and Montsheng Tsiu in the Sports, Arts and Culture and Health portfolios.

The rest of the cabinet is made up of previous MECs Tate Makgoe and Mashinini in their previous portfolios of Education as well as Police, Roads and Transport. There are also new additions in key departments, including Thembeni Nxangisa as the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), as well as William Bulwane as MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Previous MECs Butana Khompela, Oupa Khoabane, Elzabe Rockman and Dora Kotzee are out.
