NWU group exhibition displays talent from North West artists─── 09:00 Tue, 30 May 2023

‘THIS IS ME’ hosted by the NWU Gallery is a visual arts commissioning and artist development programme that is designed for recent graduates and artists that have been practicing professionally for over two years, living and working in North West.
Curator of the exhibition, Amogelang Pila, joins Mid-Morning Magic’s Yolanda Maartens in the Art Beat to talk about the importance of this exhibition and what it says about creatives in North West.
‘THIS IS ME’ Group exhibition culminates from a 4-month programme that features North West-based artists who practice in the disciplines of drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media. The common thread in the artists’ works of art, shows the essence of self that reflects and attaches itself to the relatability of the subjects that are an integral part of their everyday lives. The splendour in this is the different methods and mediums used for this artistic presentation.
The exhibition alludes to the opportunity to experience new emerging artists that stem from a province that is still establishing its art landscape, presenting rough diamonds that continue their journey of polishing and refining their skills and signatures. These 12 artists are showcasing two to four of their commissioned works which they’ve invested time, passion, and talent into, with the yearning to share their message with you.
Featured Emerging Artists include Tshegofatso Segotso, Rethabile Weevirs, KoketsoTube, Evodia Selwane Melamu, Thabang Rampai, Nkuly Nkosi, Goitseone Mokonoto, Amogelang Ngake, Laura Molokomme, Zawadi Mashego, Thuso West Modikela, and Justice Wander.
This is Me Arts Commissioning and Artist Development Programme is designed and managed by female artist Amogelang Pila Ditlhale and administered by ArtbankSA and the National Museum and sponsored by the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture and the NAC under their Work-based Experience Programme PESP3. With The Creative Mapping Project and Made4You Artist Residency as their fellow collaborators.
The exhibition will be held at the NWU Botanical Gardens Gallery in Potchefstroom until the 7th of June 2023.
