Reported resigning of Lesotho ministers welcomed─── CATHY DLODLO 11:44 Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Bloemfontein - Lesotho's former Prime Minister, Tom Thabane, has welcomed reports that the deputy leader of the ruling party in Lesotho’s coalition government has resigned.
According to media reports, current Prime Minister Pakalithi Mosisili’s Democratic Congress suffered a major blow when the party’s deputy leader, Monyane Moleleki, and several other members of the executive committee who also served as ministers, resigned last week.
Thabane – currently in exile after the failed coup attempt by an army general in 2014 – said in an exclusive interview with OFM News that if Moleleki succeeds in forming a new party, joining the opposition ranks in doing so, it would be a victory for the opposition parties in parliament.
"Our wish for him to succeed is not wishful thinking. That would actually change the whole complexion. In parliament we vote and whoever has the biggest vote calls the tune. If he comes to our side we would definitely have the necessary vote. I’ve been in the cabinet with him before, so he and I are not total strangers. Even at that time we had a few common points that we did not share with many other people."
