PowerBall: Ithuba announces bigger jackpots, higer ticket prices─── 05:19 Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Johannesburg - The SA National Lottery PowerBall has been relaunched with bigger jackpots, meaning that the price of a ticket would increase, Ithuba Holdings said on Monday.
The ticket price would increase from R3.50 to R5, Ithuba, the official operator of the national lottery, said in a statement.
It also announced a new game, PowerBall Plus, which would cost R2.50 a ticket.
"Jackpots will be larger and the overall chances of winning have almost doubled, from an average 1 in 34 to 1 in 18."
PowerBall had eight winning divisions, which had now been increased to nine.
There was also improved bottom tier fixed prizes, Ithuba said.
The two fixed prices would be R10 if players matched just the PowerBall and R15 for those who matched the PowerBall and one other number.
Ithuba chief executive officer Charmaine Mabuza said the company was addressing players' needs.
"This will help to keep the national lottery and other games thriving for years to come and ultimately [deliver] even more for players and [safeguard] the millions that we raise for the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF)," she said.
The new PowerBall and PowerBall Plus will officially be available from November 28.
