'Korkie was a free man in his heart'─── CHRISTAL-LIZE CHRISTAL-LIZE 11:35 Fri, 12 Dec 2014
Bloemfontein - Pierre Korkie may have been a hostage but he was a free man in his heart.
Pastor Theo Theron said these words during a memorial service at CRC in Bloemfontein this morning.
Theron, from the Siloam AFM Church, led the service for the former Grey College teacher.
He said the Korkie family's message was one of forgiveness. He encouraged those present to forgive so that they, like Pierre, could also be free.
Free State government Director General, Kopung Ralikontsane, former Grey College headmaster, Johan Volsteedt and Johan Lombaard were among those who spoke at the service.
Several well-known personalities were also in attendance. Ewie Cronje, the father of late former Proteas captain Hansie Cronje, as well as actor Hennie Smit, who was released from hospital last week, were present.
Korkie and American photographer Luke Somers were killed during an attempt by US special forces to free them from their Al-Qaeda captors in Yemen in the early hours of Saturday.
He and his wife Yolandé were kidnapped by Al-Qaeda militants in May last year. Yolandé was released in January.
