The crowd sang songs praising party leader Julius Malema and others mocking President Jacob Zuma.
Car horns hooted, women ululated and men blew whistles as they arrived at the stadium.
Some cars were pasted with EFF banners. An EFF flag hung in a corner inside the stadium.
Malema was expected to launch the party election manifesto in the North West later in the day.
The former ANC Youth League president spent a week in the province canvassing votes for his party ahead of the May 7 elections. Malema formed EFF after he was expelled from the African National Congress.
Police in a Nyala drove around the stadium monitoring the gathering. Two ambulances were parked inside the stadium.
