Bloemfontein - A professor at the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein has opened a case of assault against a student at the institution.
Free State police spokesperson Chaka Marope confirmed that Professor Michele Truscott claimed that she was slapped across the face by a male student in her office yesterday morning.
He says she was talking on her phone at around 08:00 when a student entered her office. She signalled that he should wait outside until her phone call has been concluded, after which he hit her in the face. He then allegedly attempted to lock her inside her office, but a colleague came to her rescue.
Marope says the case is being investigated, and an arrest could soon be made.
CUT spokesperson Dan Maritz said "CUT takes safety and security of everyone on campus seriously including our staff. I don’t have the details of this incident, but an investigation will be instituted and will report as soon as information is available on this matter. "
