OFM’s Top 10 Female Artists | News Article

We celebrate our top ten female artists for women's day.

Because today is Women’s Day, I would like to present to you the top 10 female artists on OFM to date:

  • Katy Perry

With hits such as ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Roar’, ‘I Kissed a Girl’, and ‘Chained to the Rhythm’, it is with no doubt that Katy Perry takes 1st position of OFM’s most played female artists. She is not only dominating the OFM playlists, but the Atwork Network playlists chosen by none other than you, our number one supporter. But this is not the end for Miss Katy Perry. She still has many heights to reach in her career, and this is only the beginning.

  • Taylor Swift

There is just no stopping this talented popular contemporary recording artist. Inspired by Paul McCartney, The Boss – Bruce Springsteen, Kris Kristofferson, Shania Twain, and Carly Simon, she earned herself a total of 30 hits on the OFM music database. At the age of 27, Taylor Swift has received 10 Grammy Awards, 19 American Music Awards, 21 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 8 Academy of Country Music Awards, 1 Brit Awards, and one Emmy Award. What a thing!

  • Riana Nel

Being one of South Africa’s and OFM’s top female artists, she is a true inspiration to musicians and individuals out there. Believe it or not, but Riana has released a total of 7 studio albums thus far, and she is not stopping there. Riana also writes music for other artists. Being a mother of one, with her second little one on the way, she is definitely not wasting any time. With several awards won including an OFM Music Awards, she is destined for greatness.

  • Pink

Alecia Beth Moore, or as you might actually know her – Pink, rose to fame in 2000 with her debut album ‘Can’t Take Me Home’. Recognized for her strong signature vocals and acrobatic performances, she has sold over 47 million albums to date. She also received three Grammy Awards, 1 Brit Award, a Daytime Emmy Award and six MTV Video Music Awards. Billboard named Pink the Pop Songs Artist of the Decade in 2009, and I tend to agree very strongly. All this achieved and still has time to be a great mother to two children. In 2010 she appeared on Forbes’ ‘The Celebrity 100’ list at #27, in 2011 she made Forbes’ ‘Top-Earning Women in Music’ list at #6, in 2009 Billboard placed her at #6 of their ‘Money Makers’ list, and in 2013 she appeared on Forbes’ list of ‘Highest Paid Musicians’ with total earnings of $32 million. This is truly something to celebrate.

  • Karen Zoid

Karen Louise Greeff is South Africa’s favourite rock female singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Karen has created and now hosting the television production Republiek van Zoid Afrika, featuring countless artists with whom she sings and interview. One of her most successful songs released is ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’ with Francois van Coke. The single also won the OFM Music Award in 2015 for ‘Song Of The Year’. Karen has recently released her latest album ‘Op Die Oomblik – Deel Een’ which is also part one of three. Her first two singles off the album are ‘Vir Jou’ and ‘Dames en Here’. Karen is to be one of the most influential South African artists of all times.

  • Rihanna

With 8 studio albums released, 7 tours behind her back, and starred in 10 film/television productions, it seems like all Riri does is work, work, work, work, work. After she received 8 Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 12 American Music Awards, 8 People’s Choice Awards to name only a few, she also  received the Fashion Icon Award in 2014 as she also has a very strong interest in fashion. Her top 5 singles are ‘We Found Love’ with Calvin Harris, ‘Love The Way You Lie’ with Eminem, ‘Only Girl In The World’, ‘Diamonds’ written by Sia, and ‘Umbrella’ featuring Jay-Z. She also collaborated with a lot of artists of which the biggest one is Drake. Keep a look out cause this is not the end for Rihanna.

  • Adele

Where would we ever again find someone like her? With a list of awards won that is too long to put down (of which one she broke one Grammy Award in two to give to Miss Beyoncé), and with her hit single ‘Hello’ reaching a total of over two billion views on YouTube, this is one female artist we are definitely celebrating today. All of this achieved with only three studio albums released. And after her third tour, she decided to retire from touring. After giving birth to her son in 2012, Adele stated that she felt that she was finally truly living. With much anticipation, we are awaiting more from Adele in the coming years.

  • Lady Gaga

From meat dresses, to arriving in an egg… I mean vessel… to performing at the Super Bowl, you can say that Gaga has been really busy since her release of her debut single ‘Just Dance’. Not only did she win many awards musically, but she also holds several Guinness World Records believe it or not. Inspired by none other than Madonna, Gaga really got people’s attention with everything she has done musically thus far. Gaga has released five studio albums of which one of them is a jazz/traditional pop album with Tony Bennett. She also had the honour of performing The Sound of Music medley with Julie Andrews at the 2015 Oscar Awards. Even though she made of lot of heads turn the past few years, it is still a privilege to have her in our top ten list.

  • Karlien van Jaarsveld

Karlien van Jaarsveld is also an OFM Music Award winner and lands herself in the OFM top ten female artist list for the day. But there is good reason for it. Also having won various awards the past few years for her music contribution, she really inspires people wherever she goes. With her brother also being one of SA’s top musicians, they are the perfect sibling duo to take over the music industry, and so they have done. Singles such as ‘Woorde’, ‘Hande’, ‘Sing vir Liefde’ and so much more, we can only expect great things from her and we are excited to see what she still has to offer to us and the music industry.

  • Ellie Goulding

It must be something in the way she moves, because ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer – Ellie Goulding – is certainly worth a spot in the OFM top 10 list. Ellie Goulding has a total of 3869 song spins on the OFM playlist to date. With her famous singles such as ‘Love Me Like You Do’ which spent a total of 57 weeks on the charts, ‘Burn’ which spent 43 weeks on the charts, ‘Starry eyed, and ‘I Need Your Love’, she has won a total of 12 awards. And even though she struggled with her mental health and anxiety, she sure is one artists who dominates in the music industry.
