The Free State Health Department is a health care delivery organisation serving the community of the Free State. The package of services include primary, secondary and tertiary health services.
The Department provides comprehensive health care based on primary health care principles built around the district health system framework.
It is committed to provide high quality care to its targeted populations. Some of the priority areas include comprehensive HIV and AIDS program, quality of care and prevention of clinical errors, implementation of the Tuberculosis control and other national programs.
Important support structures such as Finance, Human Resource, Information Technology and facility management are situated at the provincial office.
Five districts are extensions of the provincial office and are responsible for the coordination of service delivery in the five districts.
There are 352 primary health care clinics, 22 community health centers, 27 district hospitals, 5 regional hospitals and one tertiary hospital, and one psychiatric complex.
Nurse training is provided at the Free State School of Nursing and training for emergency medical practitioners is provided for at the College of Emergency Care.
The Free State Department of Health will achieve its vision by:

Optimally utilizing all its resources to provide the caring and compassionate services; Empowering and developing all its personnel and stakeholders;
