The final round-robin matches in the 2022 Varsity Football once again prove to be a dramatic affair with TUT stunning Kovsies in Bloemfontein, while in Mahikeng, the NWU Eagles secure a spot in the semi-finals.
In the first game of the seventh and final round before the playoffs, the Tshwane University of Technology stunned the University of the Free State with a 1-0 win to ensure a home semi-final.
UFS just needed a point from the game in order to ensure they will play their semi-final in Bloemfontein. Instead, the Blues will travel to Pretoria next week for the semi-finals, while they will face TUT again.
The defending champions, the University of Johannesburg beat UKZN 2-1 at in Soweto to finish at the top of the table and secure a home semi-final as well.
They will come up against the North-West University Eagles who in turn meat the Vaal University of Technology 3-0 in Mahikeng. The win saw NWU finishing in fourth and in the playoffs.
In Thursday’s other match, Wits beat the Tuks 1-0 in Johannesburg.
UJ host NWU next week Thursday at 16:45, while TUT will face Kovsies at 19:00.
