The Bloemfontein Celtic striker, Tshegofatso Mabasa, is delighted with his first call-up to the South African national soccer team, Bafana Bafana.

The 20-year-old marksman was included in Stuart Baxter’s 25-man squad to face Zambia during the two legs of the 2018 CHAN qualifiers.

Mabasa is also set to become the third Grey College old boy to earn a cap for South Africa, while it is believed he is the third person from his Alma Mater to receive a call-up.

Mabasa told OFM Sport that he is at a loss for words.

“I’m feeling very happy actually and I’m very proud.

“Actually I’m lost for words, I don’t know what to say, because it’s a wonderful feeling to get a chance to represent your country.

“It’s something wonderful and to be the first to achieve it from Grey, a school with such tradition and history, really means a lot.

“I appreciate the support I’ve been getting, especially from everybody that was with me at Grey and the teachers that are still there.

“I’ve really been working hard, so I guess it’s all finally paying off.”

The former Bloemfontein Celtic, Wits, AmaZulu, Ajax Cape Town and Jomo Cosmos midfielder, Keamogetse Wolff, is also a former product of the school and represented South African U17 (17 matches) and South African U20 (18 matches). Wolff was previously called up, but never played at senior level.

Mabasa previously represented South Africa at an age group level and was the top goal scorer during the 2016/17 Multichoice Diski Challenge.

South Africa face Zambia on 12 and 19 August in the qualifiers.
