It was an outstanding night for South Africa in the pool at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with three more medals being won.
On Monday night, the South Africa flag bearer, Christian Sadie, won the bronze medal in the S7 50m freestyle in Para Swimming by touching the wall in 29.78 sec.
In the men's 50m backstroke final, Pieter Coetze, added a silver medal to his gold, while in the women's 100m butterfly final, Erin Gallagher, surprised as she tied for silver in a new South African record time of 26.05 seconds.
After her race, Gallagher, admitted that she surprised even herself by touching the wall in a share for second.
“I couldn’t be happier with that swim. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster this week. I’ve had some highs and some real lows and lots of questions about what I’m doing and whether I’m going forward, as everyone does in life.
“But the team energy has been amazing and my teammates mean the absolute world to me and they’ve definitely turned it around.”
“I think the last few metres my eyes were closed. I can’t even remember the race to be honest. I put my head down and hoped for the best and I took a while to turn around and look at the time because I was nervous but when I saw the two there, I couldn’t believe it. I was so shocked.”
On Tuesday night, Chad le Clos will swim in the men's 100m butterfly final, while, Lara van Niekerk, Tatjana Schoenmaker and Corbett will swim in the women's 100m breaststroke final.
