COLUMN: It's never too late | News Article
Fannie Zim

At the age of 65 years old, with nothing to his name, he retired and received a mere $105 cheque from the government as his pension fund payout. He felt like a failure and decided to commit suicide.

He grabbed a pen and a paper and sat to write his final words... but instead of doing so; he found himself writing down what he would have accomplished and what he can accomplish now, thinking about how good a cook he was. So he borrowed $87, bought ingredients and fried up some chicken using his own special recipe and started selling it door to door. At the age of 88, he was a billionaire. He sadly passed away at the age of 90. At the time of his death, there were 6000 restaurants in 48 countries. By 2013, there were an estimated 18 000 restaurants in 118 countries.

Ladies and gentlemen; this is an inspirational story of Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), according to theverge.com.

But wait; why am I telling you all this again?

Well, my point is simply this; you are not stuck permanently where you are right now in life. Even though it may feel that way. It's never too late to change your life around into what you wish it to be.

Here's a man who decides at the age of 65 to make something great out of his life. Most of you reading this right now, aren't even half that age, yet you feel like the worst failure ever. You feel like you cannot amount to being as great as you thought you would be simply because you feel like age is not on your side anymore.

However, that can't be true. Oh well; not when there is someone who turned his life around at the age of 65 and by so doing, reminded us that; IT’S NEVER TOO LATE.

So many people are walking up and down the streets with bright smiles on their faces, while they are dying a slow painful death inside. The painful death of regret. They are regretting their mistakes and wrongdoings; the people they have met and the lives they’re living now. But you see; it’s not really the regrets that's killing them but rather their stubbornness to accept that what's done is done.

You can't go back and change what happened, but I’ll tell you what: today, right at this moment, you can decide to change your life for a better and brighter future. It's never too late for you to learn from your mistakes; to become a better person; to go back and sincerely apologize to each and every single person who you have wronged and hurt; to get that qualification you have always wanted; to build that business you want; to mend that broken relationship with your friend, colleague and family; to start over again; try again; to walk out of that abusive loveless relationship and to do just about anything and everything you desire.

Sometimes, if not most of the time, you don't even need to know HOW you going to do it; all you need to do is to make that life-changing decision to turn things around and act on it. All you have to do is to take that first step.

It's natural for you at times to look at your life, both past and present, and wonder what went wrong and wish that you had known better, or that you could have done things differently, but let me tell you one sad truth: feeling sorry for yourself is not going to get you anywhere in life. But realising that it's never too late for you to do things differently... is definitely going to get you somewhere in life, as it will compel, propel and inspire a positive action from you moving forward.

On a more serious note now: you need to stop thinking that time is up for you. As the saying goes; "it's not over until the fat lady sings". So, for as long as you breathe; it’s never too late for anything and everything to happen. Open your eyes and realise that there are no time zones or time frames in life. Nowhere is it written in life that at this age or time you should have done this and that.

Today being a CHOOSEDAY; I challenge you to make a CHOICE to believe that IT’S NEVER TOO LATE.

Happy CHOOSEDAY!
