Anyone with information regarding the identity of the victims or potential suspects is urged to contact the police.

Two bodies were retrieved in the Free State from a river near a bridge at Oranjeville, a small town situated on the banks of the Wilge River.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victims had their hands handcuffed and their feet secured with cable ties.

“On Friday (11/10), at approximately 14:15, the Oranjeville police received information from a passerby regarding the discovery of a body in the river by a bridge. The South African Police Diving Unit was subsequently summoned to the scene, where they found two bodies covered with chicken mesh, wire, and chains. The two bodies were tied together with a chain, located a few meters apart,” said Capt. Loraine Earle.

Murder cases have been initiated for further investigation at the Oranjeville police station. The bodies are both in a bad state of decomposition and both victims are without any form of identity. The victims are believed to be between 40 and 55 years old. Investigators have noticed tattoos that may assist in identifying the two victims.

The investigators observed the following:

First victim:

Has no teeth and numerous tattoos, with only a few visible:

  • “Billie 08/06/2016” on his back;
  • A cross with flames on the right calf;
  • The name “Kauthew” is written on his left hand.

Second victim:

Has teeth, and the following tattoos were found:

  • The words “International Croock” tattooed on his back;
  • Flames drawn on his left leg.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the victims or potential suspects in the murders is urged to contact Det. Col. Ben Bolsiek at 082 466 8530, Crime Stop at 0860 010 111, or submit an anonymous tip via the MySAPS App.
