More law enforcement agencies in the Free State are expected on the ground following the launch of the Safer Festive Season operation.

This after the national launch which took place in Limpopo at the beginning of November. Today Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae alongside  Provincial Commissioner Baile Motswenyane and Matjhabeng Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha led the official launch at Bronville stadium in Welkom. Motswenyane said there will be a collaboration between police, municipalities, and communities.

“A recent successful run of voter registration put the launch in motion. We are tasked with ensuring the environment is conducive to voter registration. And I'm glad that we did it with 100% so without any serious incidents.“

Motswenyane said the recent successes in apprehending suspects had already shown that men and women in blue are working already working hard to enforce the law within the province. Police have already commenced roadblocks and dealing with criminals through Operation Shanela.

Khalipha emphasised the importance of the community cooperating with law enforcement to help clamp down on criminality. Letsoha-Mathae handed over 36 police bakkies to different districts in the province.
