Bloemfontein cash-in-transit case postponed again─── ZENANDE MPAME 15:16 Wed, 22 Nov 2023
“Their case was postponed yesterday for bail information that will enable the accused the opportunity to apply for bail.”
The identities of the six men who allegedly robbed a cash-in-transit van in Hamilton, Bloemfontein, last week have still not been released. They are due back in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday (27/11) and Wednesday.
All six suspects appeared in court on Tuesday (21/11) and face charges of robbery, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and possession of suspected stolen money. “The suspects are remanded in custody and will be granted an opportunity by the court to apply for bail in their next court appearance next week,” said NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.
‘The driver was not injured’
On Monday 13 November, the suspects, aged between 35 and 45, stopped a cash delivery van, disarmed security guards, and then left the scene with an undisclosed sum of money. During the robbery, three shots were fired at a Batho visible policing unit van. The driver was not injured.
The six men were arrested near Bothaville in the north-western Free State hours after the robbery.
